Waterford Teachers' Centre has invested in 3 large class-sets of African Drums, as pictured below. These sets are loaned out to schools where teachers have taken the course in Drum Circle Magic. There is a drum for each pupil in the class and the Drum Circle is facilitated by the Class Teacher.
Currently one set is located in Waterford Teachers’ Centre and the others in outreach Centres in Clonmel and Dungarvan. Each set can be booked in advance for a two to four week slot and collected either from the venues where they are located or from the last school attached to that outreach venue who has them out on loan.
Each set can be booked through Breda Halley in Waterford Teachers’ Centre. Over 100 teachers have taken the training with tutor Eddie O'Neill and the feedback from the teachers is extremely positive. To date over 30 schools have taken them on loan. Several schools take them on loan each year. Feedback from the schools to whom the sets were loaned to report the great value in terms of learning made by the pupils and of course it is also a fun activity!
One or more teachers in any school who want a loan of the set of drums must complete the course described below. It has featured in our Spring, Summer and Autumn course programmes for the past 5 years.
