PRIMARY: TEACHERS' READING GROUPS INFORMATION SESSION
Reading for pleasure is a social justice issue. International evidence indicates it offers cognitive, social and emotional benefits, helping children make connections with each other, their teachers, their families and the wider world.
The Open University and UK Literacy Association are supporting Teachers' Reading Groups in order to provide free evidence-based CPD for teachers, librarians, reading volunteers and others to enrich their understanding of reading for pleasure and how to support it.
The Teachers' Reading Group Leader is Niamh Savage, Light of Christ NS, Dunmore East. The aim of this group is to foster children's reading for pleasure , to support the profession by building a professional community around reading for pleasure locally and online and to share teachers' resultant development work on the Open University Reading for Pleasure website.
There will hopefully be 5/6 reading group meetings throughout the 19/20 academic year.
