Dear Principals, EAL Coordinators & SENCOs,
Recently Education Centre Directors met with Deirdre O Brien of Léargas to learn of the possibilities of local schools and individuals accessing funding to facilitate projects that encourage European exchange, co-operation and learning.
Their Erasmus+ programme aims to modernise and improve the quality of teaching, training and youth work across Europe, and to support the development, transfer and implementation of innovative practices.
We hope to organise a national mobility consortium whereby WTC as an Education Centre can act as a coordinating organisation and apply for funding on behalf of a group of second level schools.
As more and more non-English speaking students are enrolling in your schools each year, teachers are now finding themselves coming face to face with migrants from continents outside of Europe.
While schools are offering some language support, many teachers feel that all of these pupils needs are not being met. Many teachers believe that they need to develop their skillset to integrate these pupils better and help them function in the mainstream.
To address this, we propose to apply for an Erasmus+ mobility grant to explore the practices/ approaches that other European schools have in place.
In order to inform your schools about this initiative and Léargas projects in general, we will host an Information Meeting in our Centre at 3 pm on Tuesday, 8th January 2019. (Refreshments available from 2.45 pm)
Deirdre O Brien, Léargas Coordinator and Narrell Byrne, EAL Teacher, who has experience of engaging in Léargas initiatives, will attend to provide information and share their experiences and expertise.
