Young children navigate the world of literacy through play. Prioritising play affords endless opportunities to teach, reinforce and contextualise a wealth of literacy components, capitalising on children’s previous related knowledge, choice and interests.
This webinar will explore a range of strategies to support playful approaches to literacy instruction and the prioritisation of play in support literacy development in the junior primary classroom.
Clara Maria Fiorentini is a lecturer in Initial Teacher Education at Marino Institute of Education,specialising in Literacy and Early Childhood Education. Prior to this, Clara taught for eleven yearsin an urban, DEIS primary school in Co. Dublin, Ireland. Clara provides CPD for primary teachersand early childhood professionals in the areas of literacy, children's literature, play based learningand school transitions. Clara is completing her PhD research in early literacy development andtransitions to formal literacy learning. Clara is currently an executive committee member of theLiteracy Association of Ireland.
