Gender equality is an ongoing focus of legislation and policy in Ireland and elsewhere. Gender stereotypes are insidious and can lead to inequalities for girls and boys. They can also be the basis for gender-based bullying and gender-based violence. This workshop is grounded in the work of the Gender Equality Matters (GEM) EU project which ran from 2018 – 2021. The project’s main aim was to tackle gender inequality, and pilot schools in Ireland contributed to the development of classroom materials for use at primary level.

Dr. Bernie Collins who will facilitate the session is co-author of ‘Gender Equality Matters’, a programme which focuses on promoting gender equality in primary schools. She has also published manuals for primary school teachers in other areas, including children’s voice and LGBTI+ bullying.
