This course will run Face to Face should Covid Restrictions allow at the time.
Proceeding from the Visual Arts Appreciation webinar, which has benefited over 700 primary teachers, this summer course is designed to support teachers with the Looking & Responding Strand Units of the Visual Arts Curriculum. The tutor demonstrates how well known works of art and free online resources can enhance pupil engagement with the Art Curriculum, providing new and fresh ideas from infant level to sixth class. It highlights practical and fun activities for pupil engagement in appreciation and familiarisation with world famous art galleries through a virtual lens.
Teachers will learn how activities in Looking and Responding to the visual arts can assist in children’s development in communication, critical thinking and interpretation of the visual environment. Using guiding tools, teachers will learn how well-known works of art can be integrated with other subjects such as SPHE, music, history and geography, playing a supporting role in literacy and numeracy and facilitating the development of language and vocabulary.
Teachers who attend the full 20-hour summer course will qualify for 3 extra Personal vacation days.
