OUR OWN LOCAL HISTORY WEBSITE

Please click on the    Local History  Icon on the top right hand side of our banner above. This will take you to ur Local History website. This website is a resource for teachers dealing with the History section of the Primary Curriculum. It covers the various strands and strand units of the History Curriculum for all clases in the Primary School. It has been designed for use by the class teacher in their classroom using an Interactive Whiteboard. It can also be accessed by parents and pupils at home on their desktop computer, laptop computer, or tablet computer in their own home. It is packed with interesting resources about historical events in Waterford and surrounding areas and interactive features that will appeal to and engage young learners. It is a resource that teachers in a school can use to  make the teaching of history comemore alive for their pupils because it relates to events that took place in their community.

WHAT IS GUIDED READING?

The Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) summarises guided reading as follows:

Teacher works with 4-6 students in each group

Using levelled/banded readers and multiple copies of these readers

Children are grouped according to similarities in reading and development and instructional reading levels

Teacher introduces/consolidates strategies and concepts to support independent reading

Every child reads and is supported by their teacher

Our facebook page currently has 368 "likes". We are anxious to bring the number of likes up substantially over the coming weeks. We will be using the facebook page to advertise our courses and so it is important that as many teachers as possible are facebook friends so that they will get prompt notice of new courses being advertised.

So, as a special promotion, we are offering €10.00 reduction on all of our current courses that have a fee attached to them for all teachers and special needs assistants who "like" our page and who also get 3 of their teacher or SNA friends to "like" the page too!. This is a time- limited offer, so don't delay!

When registering for a course you will need to give your name and the the names of the 3 colleagues who have liked" the page, and with the approximate dates. We will be able to see the results ourselves from that information.

RESOURCE LIBRARY

Waterford Teachers' Centre is delighted to announce that our Resource Library is now going online. This means that each person visiting our Library Section will be able to see details of all our titles by browsing through each Library Shelf.

We have thousands of titles in Books, Resource Kits, Videos and DVDs.

The resources are meant for teachers who wish to participate in their own Professional Development. With the exception of some of the Videos and DVDs the resources are not for using in Class.

The resources, if used appropriately, will help you become a more informed, a more skilled and a more effective teacher.

You can download a Membership Form and other details in our Downloads Section and fill it in if you want to become a member of our Library and are happy to comply with our Terms and Conditions.

Then you will have access to booking items on line and reserving them for the date of their return if they are out on loan to another member.

LAUNCH OF OUR NEW WEBSITE

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new website. It will become fully operational on Tuesday October 21st next.

When fully developed it will take us to a new plane of activity where teachers will be able to transact most of their business with us online.

This will include booking and paying for courses online, joining our extensive online Library of Resources for you to read, listen to, or to view.

We will also have online interactive software on Local History which will be very easy to use by every primary teacher in every primary classroom to teach the Primary History Curriculum from Junior Infants to Sixth Class.
