AG EISTEACHT - ABLE4TEACHERS WORKSHOP

TheABLE4Teachersworkshop is designed to introduce participants to the knowledge and skills required to adopt a relational approach in their school. The workshop will include an overview of the four stage, evidence informed, brief intervention model called ABLE. The model is designed to enable teachers to recognise and use opportunities to engage with and listen to, colleagues and parents especially at times of change, challenge and / or upheaval.

The workshop, facilitated by an experienced Ag Eisteacht trainer, will enable participants to:

·         Recognise the benefits of relational wellbeing to those in the school community i.e. pupils, colleagues and parents.

·         Have an overview of current research linking brain development to relational wellbeing

·         Be able to consider how the ABLE model could be used to offer brief, considered interventions, at those times when a colleague or parent may seek a teacher’s support, during the course of their work.

NEPS - NATIONAL LITERACY STRATEGY Workshops

THE BALANCED APPROACH TO LITERACY DEVELOPMENT
THE BALANCED APPROACH TO LITERACY DEVELOPMENT

As part of the National Literacy Strategy, National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) have developed a new on-line resource for use by Irish primary teachers. The Balanced Approach to Literacy Development in the Early Years draws on international research, evidence based practice and samples of that practice in Irish primary schools to give a coherent and comprehensive guide to teachers.

This resource can be used by class teachers working with children from Junior Infants to First Class. The Balanced Approach is aligned with the Primary Language Curriculum and the Checklist in it is cross-referenced with the progression milestones in the Primary Curriculum. It may also be helpful to schools who have identified the need to improve reading standards.   Some schools may also like to use the resource to support the work of a professional learning community focusing on literacy.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING COURSE

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING

One of the key indicators of mental health in young people is access to One Good Adult and in times of need teachers are well placed to act as that One Good Adult. The Association of Teacher Education Centre's in Ireland (ATECI), in collaboration with Jigsaw has recently developed and will roll out an awareness raising programme on the issue of adolescent mental health to fifth and sixth class teachers in primary schools. It is envisaged that this initiative will assist Primary schools in developing a whole-school approach in the promotion of positive mental health for all as outlined in the recent DES publication Well – Being in Primary Schools.

Our facilitators are experienced primary school leaders/teachers with specific expertise and interest in the area of mental well-being.
